Rooted in Farming

The Devolder family is very much rooted in farming with Bob and Diane and their daughter Lisa representing the third and fourth generations involved in agriculture.

Bob’s grandfather, Maurice Devolder, came to Canada from Belgium and settled in Dover Township in 1928.  He began his farming career in Ontario working for other farmers as a labourer in the sugarbeet industry.  Not afraid of hard work, Maurice’s ambition led him to success and eventually he saved enough of his wages to purchase his very first farm.

How the Farm Evolved

The family and its involvement in agriculture has evolved over the years, including livestock, tobacco and other various cash crops.

During the 1970’s, Bob worked closely with his father Andrew Devolder to learn about pedigreed seed production.  As the years passed, Bob also became a pedigreed seed grower.

Passionate about growing quality seed, Bob has successfully maintained his seed grower status for over 30 years.

Pedigreed Seed Leaders

Partnering with seed leaders in the industry, Bob has also proven himself to be an influential seed grower that works closely with seed breeders to grow higher pedigreed status soybeans for the Ontario soybean market.  As a result, Bob and Diane Devolder are often among the first to grow the newest varieties and test out the latest technologies available to growers.

farming today & in the future

Devolder Farms currently operates and manages a cash crop farm operation throughout the fertile soils and optimum growing conditions in Chatham-Kent.

Our acreage is primarily used for growing commercial corn along with higher pedigreed soybeans and winter wheat that will be used for seed production .

New technologies & trials

Always looking to be on the forefront of new technologies and innovations, Bob and Diane Devolder, and the team that they have assembled at Devolder Farms actively participate in testing out new precision products and techniques, as well as conducting crop, seed treatment and fungicide research trials (including future varieties) each year.
